The 10 Things You Need To Do Before Making Your First Nail Art Appointment

  1. Check our blog bitches!

LOL you knew that was coming. But seriously we take a lot of time vetting the salons on our salon list. If you want a guaranteed great experience choose one of our favorites.

  2. Pick your design.

We’ve found our appointments to go a lot smoother when we have at least one inspiration image to show the artist. If you can’t find something that is exactly what you want that is fine, any of our top salons will have artist that will be able to come up with something on the fly. It is easier, however, to describe art with pictures rather than words.

  3. Check the salon’s Instagram or Yelp.

Some salons specialize in certain techniques. If you want a design with a lot of stones, you’ll be doing yourself a favor by checking the salon’s recent posts to see if they have stones. Some salons also use their social media to announce deals, last minute openings, and guest artists.

  4. Make an appointment.

We recommend booking over the phone because it gives you the opportunity to check whether they accept credit/tip on card, and to ask any other questions you have about the salon. A lot of places will let you book online, which is convenient, so it’s up to you. Make your appointment at least one week in advance. We actually have gotten into the habit of booking our appointments a month in advance, since our top rated salons are almost always booked out.

  5. Check street view.

Once you know where you appointment is going to be it’s helpful to check street view to see the entrance to the salon. Many salons do not have windowed storefronts or are on upper floors and might be difficult to find.

  6. Get Cash.

Even if the salon accepts tip on card it’s better to be safe than sorry. It’s also considered more polite to tip in cash.

  7. Bring hand cream.

Recently, we’ve experienced quite a few salons not providing hand cream at the end of sessions. We’re not sure why this is, maybe allergic reactions or hygiene. If you get your nails done consistently, it might be useful for you to carry cream in your bag at all times. Not only can you use it after your session, but you can use it throughout your day.

  8. Eat and use the bathroom.

Most nail art sessions take a long time. You don’t want to be sitting there hungry and having to pee for 2 hours plus.

  9. Check for parking.

If you have to drive to the salon check the parking situation. If it looks like you will need to find street parking plan on arriving early.

  10. Have a great time.

Enjoy yourself. A nail art session should be a treat!
